Under 8

U8: Chippenham Tn v CCCFC Print
The under-8s squad made the short trip to their home from home – the superb 3G pitch at Stanley Park – to take on Chippenham Town Youth in two friendly matches.
Matthew R pounced on a weak clearance to rifle home the opening goal for the Blacks – a just reward for a sustained spell of first-half pressure that brought a series of chances.  George, Luke, Bradley and Caleb all played their part in a fine passing display and Max took full advantage of some great build-up play with four lethal second-half finishes.  A tall and talented Chippenham side always looked dangerous going forward in a see-saw affair but Daniel was a real tower of strength at the back and both Max and George, who shared the goalkeeping duties, made some excellent saves.
The Whites poured forward at will in their game and Joe made it a half-century of goals for the season with six superb strikes. Brandon showed great determination to add his name to the scoresheet and Matty S, who was a constant menace, also found the target. James also went close in a powerful performance and Luca was always lively. The ever-reliable Josh R ensured keeper Rowan had a quiet morning before deservedly side-footing home the decisive penalty in the post-match shootout.

U8: CCCFC Whites v Worton & Cheverell Print
The Whites were involved in a terrific tussle with a talented Worton & Cheverell outfit as they returned to match action after a seven-week sabbatical.
Colts’ pre-match preparations were hampered by Rowan’s second bloody nose of the season but the heroic shot-stopper recovered to deliver a tremendous performance between the posts and was unlucky not to finish the game with a clean sheet.
At the other end, Joe capped another impressive display with a brilliantly-taken hat-trick, which included two belting efforts from distance. He also hit the woodwork twice, once with a header following a pinpoint cross from the hard-running Matty S.
Captain Josh had an increased workload at the back but rose to the challenge well and was aided by some excellent challenges from James. Brandon, Tom and Luca all asked questions of the Worton defence, creating chances and going close to adding their names to the scoresheet.

U8: CCCFC Blacks v Bishops Cannings Print
There were plenty of goals for a windswept crowd to enjoy when the Blacks took on Bishops Cannings at Castle Combe.
With the elements and the slope in their favour in the first half, Colts poured forward in numbers and George, Luke, Max and Matthew R – who scored direct from a corner, yet again – all found the Cannings net.
The sporting visitors had plenty to cheer as the Colts coaches experimented with their line-up in the second period, although Max and Luke both completed their hat-tricks and Matthew thumped home his second of the morning.
Skipper Bradley led by example with some unselfish and intelligent play and was instrumental in a number of the hosts’ goals. Daniel and Caleb shared the goalkeeping duties and, along with Alex, broke up the visitors’ attacks with some timely tackles.

U8: CCCFC Blacks v FC Calne Panthers Print
The under-8s Blacks did themselves proud when they came up against a strong FC Calne Panthers side at an icy Castle Combe.
Although containing the visitors’ star player proved a tough task at times, the Colts stuck to their guns well and all seven boys played a full part in a gritty, battling performance. Max grabbed a couple of memorable first-half goals, the first coming via a post after he had hit the bar and the second a fine header from Matthew’s fabulous free-kick.
Luke made a couple of brilliant saves – one with his face – in the first period before halting Calne with some strong challenges in the second. The dependable Daniel also defended excellently, while George’s determination saw him add a late third goal for the home side.  Matthew and Bradley were denied by both the woodwork and Calne’s outstanding goalkeeper, who made a string of stops to keep the hosts at bay, and Josh M both tackled and distributed the ball well in an encouraging display.
While the Blacks managed to play their game against Calne, the Whites’ planned fixture with the visitors’ Pumas team earlier in the morning was called off due to a frozen pitch. Luca, Josh R, Rowan, James and Tom all deserve credit for the way they dealt with the disappointment and will no doubt be looking forward to their return to action at Marshfield next Saturday.

U8: AFC Corsham v CCCFC Print
Eleven different players got their names on the scoresheet when the under-8s squad travelled to AFC Corsham for two matches.
Both the Blacks and the Whites again demonstrated what good sides they are and some of the teamwork and passing on show was a joy to watch for the travelling supporters at Leafy Lane.
Matthew set the tone for the morning when he cracked home an early long-distance opener for the Blacks. He went on to complete a hat-trick , while midfield maestro George and Caleb both struck in each half. Max and captain Luke did their defensive duties well while also hitting the target at the other end, with the latter’s superb run and cross laying on a goal for Bradley. Dan did not allow Corsham to pass with some strong challenges and Alex played his part in support of the attack.
Tom had a debut to savour with four fantastic finishes in the Whites’ match. His confident haul was matched by Brandon, who produced a couple of thumping efforts – a just reward for some unselfish play in recent weeks. Rowan came out of goal to score from close range in the second half and Matty and Joe, despite operating in deeper roles for much of the game, still managed to add three and one respectively to their impressive tallies for the season. Captain Josh R, who pressed forward in search of a first goal late on, Luca and Josh M all helped to break up Corsham’s attacks with some fine tackling.

U8: FC Calne v CCCFC Print
The under-8s Whites and Blacks put down another strong marker when they came up against FC Calne’s talented and highly-rated squad at Springfield School.
Joe made it 40 goals in nine matches this season as he netted five times in the Whites’ game with Calne Pumas, his tally including a beauty from a tight angle. Keeper Rowan made a couple of great one-on-one saves and James went close to scoring from long range. Matty worked his socks off and was unlucky not to find the target and Brandon and Luca made some important challenges in midfield, setting up Joe for his third of the morning. Josh’s exemplary defending made it seem as though the Colts had three men at the back.
The Blacks showed their resolve and fighting spirit after conceding three early goals to Calne Panthers. After adjusting to the hosts’ tactics and large pitch they struck back through the rampant Max, who produced four clinical first-half finishes. Captain Daniel was a tower of strength at the back and put in some mighty tackles, while Matthew’s all-action display saw him help shore up the defence while score twice – including a peach  direct from a corner – at the other end. Luke came out of goal in the second half and his marauding runs from deep were a major feature of the visitors’ play after the break. George’s fancy footwork and tenacity bamboozled the Calne defence and Caleb showed his versatility will telling contributions at both ends of the field. Bradley dazzled on both wings and finished off a couple of superb team moves on his way to a hat-trick.

U8: CCCFC v Westbury Youth Print
The strength of Colts’ talented under-8s squad shone through in two matches with Westbury Youth.
Westbury travelled in big numbers but their Lions faced a Whites team in full flow in the morning's opening game. Joe was in outstanding form, helping to snuff out the visitors’ key men at one end while also hitting a hat-trick at the other. Matty showed great composure in front of goal and ended a typically energetic display with the team’s other four goals.  Brandon’s unselfish work and awareness deserved a goal, while Luca and Jacob battled well and made some key tackles in midfield. Skipper Josh marshalled the defence in no-nonsense fashion and Rowan and James, who had a half each in goal, both pulled off vital saves to keep a useful Westbury outfit at bay.
The Blacks delivered another passing masterclass in their game with Westbury Tigers, with some tidy approach play leading to a host of chances in front of goal. Bradley started the ball rolling with a couple of first-half efforts, nicking one from George on the line, before completing his hat-trick in style with a brilliant free-kick into the top corner. On a day of spectacular strikes, Luke volleyed home Matthew’s corner at the near post and George finished with aplomb before Max chested in from close range. Perhaps the best was saved for last, however, with Matthew – now playing at the back – sensationally lobbing the keeper from inside his own half to round off the scoring. While the front players grabbed the glory, Daniel was a real unsung hero with a rock-solid defensive display.

U8: CCCFC v Bradford Town Youth Print

A busy morning for the under-8s squad saw Bradford Town visit for three matches that produced plenty of thrills and spills for a large crowd to enjoy.

The Blacks kicked things off with a fine display of teamwork, with the boys showing their growing versatility by swapping positions throughout. Four different players got on the scoresheet, with Matthew R nearly ripping the back of the net out a couple of times on his way to a hat-trick. George’s trickery also led to a well-taken treble, Luke notched twice – including an emphatic penalty – and Bradley rolled home the other goal. Max worked hard at both ends of the field and was desperately unlucky not to add to the Blacks’ total. A game Bradford side showed plenty of improvement from the reverse fixture last month and replied with a couple of great strikes.

Joe took his tally for the season past 30 with four more goals - and also made some timely interventions at the back - as the Whites were given a real run for their money by Bradford Tigers. Matty S was also on the mark with a superb first-time finish and Joe rattled the post with a fierce penalty but the frontmen were made to work hard for their reward by a tenacious and determined Bradford defence. Captain Josh R’s hard but fair tackling kept the visitors at bay at the other end, while Brandon and James made good contributions both in defence and attack.

Rowan starred with some brilliant saves for the Whites before showing his total commitment to the cause in the third game of the morning. Playing further up the field, he won a free-kick before converting it in style for his first goal for the club. Sadly, Rowan’s brave attempt to foil a Bradford attack shortly afterwards led to a ball in the face and a bloody nose, ending his involvement in the game – even though he was desperate to return to the fray! Caleb and Luca also had a day to remember by opening their goal accounts in the black and white stripes, while the tigrish Josh M battled away throughout. Max and Luke did a great job between the posts and Bradley and Brandon shored up the defence in the second half.
