NWL U12 Division 1: Royal Wootton Bassett Town Blue 1 CCCFC Whites 1 Print
Season 15/16 - Under 12 White

The Whites shared the honours with Royal Wootton Bassett for the second time this season in another game that typified the close and competitive nature of North Wilts League Division 1.
Both sides will feel they could have won a contest that, much like the 2-2 draw at Castle Combe in September, saw the Colts carve out the better chances but neither could complain too much at the final scoreline.
A bright start from the visitors saw Matthew and Liam F combine intelligently in the engine room and Sam and Toby threaten the Bassett backline with some good running on and off the ball. They went agonisingly close to taking the lead when Brandon H’s great pass released Liam B and he beat a defender before slotting the ball past the advancing keeper, only to see his effort come back off a post.
Bassett certainly gave the Colts some nervous moments going forward too and, throughout the contest, posed a danger from the flanks. Just when it seemed the sides would go in at half-time all-square, a cross came in from the right and an unfortunate ricochet produced a simple finish and a 1-0 interval advantage for the hosts.
Four half-time changes freshened things up and Colts were quickly on level terms as Toby put Sam clear of the defence and he finished well. The lively pair, supported by Matthew’s driving runs from deep and the trickery of Liam F and Liam B, fashioned further chances as the half wore on but were narrowly off-target on each occasion.
Bassett’s direct approach kept Josh, Callum and Bradley on their toes at the back but all three stuck dutifully to their task and were particularly impressive in the challenge. Luke VDB, Tom and Luke S were strong and disciplined in the wide positions as a big pitch and warm conditions made the wing-back position even more demanding than usual. In goal, Max was equal to a number of Bassett corners and did well to turn one late effort behind at his near post as both teams pressed for a winner in the closing stages.
