U8: CCCFC v FC Calne Print
Season 11/12 - Under 8
The under-8s went into the Easter break on a real high after two terrific tussles with FC Calne.
Matty S got the Whites off to a great start in their final fixture of a magnificent Green Division season against Calne Pumas, outmuscling a defender before firing home clinically. Joe again covered every blade of grass for the cause and was rewarded with the hosts’ second goal.
With Tom and James supporting well, fellow midfielder Brandon deservedly tucked home via a post to round off the scoring in the second period. Rowan showed a safe pair of hands throughout and Josh R and Luca defended superbly as the Whites kept a clean sheet at Combe for the second Saturday in succession.
The Blacks’ third meeting of the season with Calne Panthers saw probably their best performance yet. Despite some sensational goalkeeping from Matty S, the visitors scored a fortuitous opener from a corner while, for a long spell, it looked like being one of those days at the other end. Matthew R’s shot hit both the underside of the bar and the post while Max’s header flew straight at the keeper.
Matthew and Max gave heroic displays in a physical battle, with the latter doing well at both ends of the pitch. When Matthew’s long-range free-kick crashed into the roof of the net the cheers from the home support could probably have been heard back in Chippenham. He went on to complete a hat-trick, rounding off the scoring with a penalty, while the lively Toby cracked home a low drive from the edge of the box.
Luke defended brilliantly against a robust Calne attack and George’s driving runs set up a series of chances.  Josh M and Caleb kept the visiting backline busy but also put in their fair share of tackles.
